ABOUT

Annelinde Bruijs (1991) is a composer, theatre maker and performer. She works in theater mainly in the Netherlands. After graduating in 2013 from the Codarts Rotterdam conservatory her focus was on vocal music theatre productions that search for meaning in both disciplines: in music and in theatre/performance. Her compositions are written for a theatrical context where the music is seen as a co-player that has its own dramaturgy. The vocal music is often created out of non-poetic language; no rhyme, no meter, but dry language of people who are thinking. A specific source for the libretto are interviews. Due to the many bar and key signature changes, which follows from spoken language, her music becomes erratic and unpredictable.
Since 2020, Bruijs has been studying philosophy (part-time) at Erasmus University in Rotterdam. This increasingly influences her work practice, which is at the intersection between musical theater and philosophy.
